Sterile Processing Technician I Job Description

Boston Children's Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician I to join our team. As a Sterile Processing Technician I, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by processing and sterilizing medical instruments and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receiving, sorting, cleaning, and decontaminating soiled reusable instruments, equipment, and materials following manufacturer's instructions.
  • Loading, operating, and emptying cleaning and decontamination equipment such as automatic washers, endoscope reprocessors, cart washer, and pasteurizers.
  • Inspecting, preparing, and sterilizing surgical instruments and other materials.
  • Assembling trays and packets of instruments, medical supplies for surgical procedures according to standardized content lists and manufacturers guidelines.
  • Loading and operating sterilizers, programming settings, and monitoring temperature and other critical readings during run cycle.
  • May be asked to assume responsibility for leadership in the department in the absence of and/or in conjunction with CPD Manager.
  • Plans, organizes, and oversees daily operations.
  • Monitoring work flow and prioritizing work assignments to meet established schedules and clinical requirements.
  • Responding to customer requests and resolving problems as needed.
Requirements:
  • Certification of Sterile/Central Processing is required.
  • A high school degree or GED equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience within Sterile Processing is strongly preferred.
  • A strong knowledge of instrumentation and power surgical instruments.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills to develop working relationships with staff.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • Flexibility and the willingness to change assignments due to department needs.
