The Water Treatment Facility Technician is accountable for the effective operation, routine maintenance, and oversight of specialized equipment within a treatment facility. This includes managing pumps, motors, chemical preparation systems, and various treatment processes, while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Maintain operational records and prepare routine and special reports as required.
- Inspect mechanical equipment for optimal performance, conducting necessary lubrication, adjustments, and minor repairs.
- Conduct field and laboratory tests to monitor and control facility operations, making adjustments as needed.
- Operate and assist in the maintenance of water systems and treatment plants.
- Ensure the production of safe potable water in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Perform daily operational tasks, including laboratory analyses and routine calibrations.
- Monitor operational equipment using manual and electronic systems, such as SCADA.
- Engage in preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
- Support the development and effectiveness of the preventative maintenance system.
- Accurately document all work activities and assist in inventory management of chemicals and supplies.
- Utilize computer systems and software as required for the position.
- Maintain accurate logs, records, and administrative documents.
- Adhere to established safety protocols and operational procedures.
- Execute additional job-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
- Technical knowledge and hands-on experience in advanced water treatment facility operations are essential.
- Proven experience in performing maintenance and operational tasks independently.
- Familiarity with Computer Maintenance Management Systems is advantageous.
- Strong laboratory and sampling skills are required.
- In-depth understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and chemical principles.
- Awareness of health and safety regulations and water quality monitoring practices.
- Ability to complete written procedures and documentation effectively.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Competence in repairing chemical feed systems and associated components.
- Thorough knowledge of water treatment plant operations and maintenance.
- Understanding of electrical and electronic systems relevant to water treatment.
- Ability to recognize operational flaws and implement corrective measures.
- Proficiency in conducting water quality testing and instrumentation maintenance.
- Effective communication skills for interaction with various stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Capability to troubleshoot equipment failures and read technical drawings.
- Must be proficient in English, both written and verbal.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening and physical assessment is required.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection T-2 License within one year.
- Certification in CPR and first aid is necessary.
- Physical capabilities include climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing various manual tasks.
