Job Summary

This is a critical role within the Air National Guard Units, responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of inspection policies and procedures. The successful candidate will serve as the focal point for interpreting and implementing Air Force inspection policy and wing-level long-range strategic plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee compliance with inspection policies and procedures, including By-Law, Special Emphasis Items (SEI), Special Interest Items (SII), Command Interest Items (CII), and nuclear assurance inspections.
  • Interpret and incorporate complex laws and guidance from all levels to create inspection plans throughout the wing.
  • Review and update installation exercise policy guidance and instructions to ensure currency and adequacy.
  • Analyze inspection processes and procedures to ensure commanders' intent is being achieved.
  • Plan and direct inspections that incorporate Department of Defense (DoD), Department of the Air Force (DAF), gaining major command(s) (G-MAJCOMs), National Guard Bureau (NGB), state, wing, local instructions, and laws for regulatory guidance.
  • Research and develop creative exercise techniques to achieve mission-driven objectives.
  • Author and approve IG inspection reports, communicating the status of compliance within organizations and the unit's ability to accomplish tasked missions.
  • Oversee the preparation and adequacy of wing inspection team (WIT) members tasked to assist with inspections.
  • Utilize qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques to determine the unit's ability to accomplish missions.
  • Make determinations on trend items and present findings during the commander's inspection management board (CIMB).
  • Oversee and provide input into the development of business rules and commanders' dashboards, specifically as it relates to CCIP inspections and exercises.
  • Determine the number of inspections/exercises that can be accomplished based on available manpower and resources.
Requirements
  • Membership in the Illinois National Guard and military grade listed in the announcement.
  • Registration under the Military Selective Service Act (for male applicants born after 12/31/1959).
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Compliance with the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.
  • Irregular and/or overtime hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies.
  • Completion of the wing Inspector General Training Course Inspections (IGTC-I) within 180 days of appointment.
  • Completion of the USAF Nuclear Inspector Course within 180 days of assignment (for IG appointees in nuclear-capable units).
