Job Summary:

Compliance Specialist 2 – Motor Carrier Auditor (Limited Duration)

This is a unique opportunity to work as a motor carrier auditor with the Oregon Department of Transportation. In this role, you will be responsible for performing audits to ensure compliance with Oregon's weight-mile tax, over-dimension fees, commercial registration, International Registration Plan, and International Fuel Tax Agreement regulations.

About the Role:

  • Organize and examine carrier mileage and fuel records to determine the accuracy of carrier tax reports and registration applications.
  • Investigate sources of information when carrier records are incomplete.
  • Research and interpret laws, rules, and international agreements to ensure motor carriers comply with regulations.
  • Assess under or over-reported taxes and fees and impose penalties for non-compliance.
  • Document audit findings and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.
  • Interview carriers to determine their system of internal controls for recording, processing, and reporting vehicle operations.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to the carrier by fully explaining the audit and applicable laws, rules, and international agreements.

Requirements:

Four years of experience doing administrative research that included compiling and evaluating facts to recommend management action or decide compliance with program guidelines and regulations. Two of the four years must be above the technical support level.

College-level coursework may substitute for experience on the basis of 45-quarter units per year, up to a maximum of three years.

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
