Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Safety Emergency Response Specialist to join our team at the City of Hopewell, VA.

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to work in a fast-paced environment providing emergency medical services and responding to fire alarms.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Respond to emergency calls and provide basic and advanced life support services to the community.
  • Support fire suppression activities, including exterior firefighting and rescue operations.
  • Participate in ongoing training and instruction programs to stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and procedures.
  • Maintain and drive emergency vehicles, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Perform station duties, including equipment maintenance and cleaning.
  • Deliver public safety education services to the community, promoting awareness and prevention.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Certification as an EMT Intermediate or Paramedic from the Virginia or National Registry is essential.
  • Familiarity with Firefighter I and Hazardous Materials Operations certification is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia is necessary.

Work Environment:

  • The role requires working in various outdoor conditions, including extreme temperatures, heights, and exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Shift work, including weekends, holidays, nights, and extended hours, may be required.

Physical Demands:

  • The position involves physical activities such as stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, and depth perception.
  • The typical weight handled is up to 125 lbs. individually and up to 250 lbs. with assistance.

Estimated Salary Range:

$45,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
