Job Summary

The Cost Engineer is responsible for maintaining a true and accurate cost structure and coordinating reporting elements key to developing accurate cost reports. This role serves as an interface between project management, cost management, and accounting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with all Safety policies and procedures, actively promoting a culture of safety and reporting all accidents, incidents, and near-misses.
  • Review project features with the Estimating department to ensure accurate work quantities are entered daily.
  • Verify proper coding for phases, hours, and slips to maintain accurate cost tracking.
  • Close out completed project phases and verify progress entries to ensure up-to-date cost reporting.
  • Conduct monthly cost review meetings with the project team to discuss cost performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Assign and initiate new cost codes for change orders, tracking items, and back charges as required.
  • Verify pencil sheets and pay requisitions to ensure accurate cost submissions.
  • Lead the development of quarterly cost-to-complete reports to provide project stakeholders with accurate cost projections.
  • Review and process change orders for TMC and subcontractors/vendors, ensuring timely and accurate cost adjustments.
  • Identify and communicate items exceeding budget to the Project Manager, facilitating proactive cost management.
  • Assist the project management team with quarterly reports for contract status, contract profit, unit cost report, cost projections, revenue projections, change order status, and change order costs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or a minimum of 3 years of heavy civil construction experience.
  • Experience working with project management and a thorough knowledge of heavy construction logistics, resource planning, construction sequencing, and material management.
  • Familiarity with a variety of field construction concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Viewpoint Accounting and Job Costing System is desirable.
