Job Title: Trauma Care Consultant

Department: Trauma Recovery Services

Employment Type: Full-Time, 40 hours/week – Hybrid Role (combination of remote and in-office work)

Reporting To: Head of Trauma Recovery Services

The Institute for Health & Recovery (IHR) operates as a comprehensive service, research, policy, and program development organization. Our approach is rooted in a deep understanding of trauma's effects. IHR's CARF accredited programs offer holistic solutions for underserved and high-risk populations. Since our inception, our mission has been to create and sustain a thorough continuum of care for individuals and families impacted by substance use, trauma, mental health issues, and other health challenges, while promoting health equity and social justice. We are dedicated to addressing disparities in healthcare, economic, and justice systems, particularly those affecting marginalized communities.

Role Summary: The Trauma Care Consultant is dedicated to guiding various health, medical, social service, and justice organizations in becoming trauma-informed and developing specialized trauma services. This role involves conducting trauma assessments, providing training, and offering technical support to enhance organizational capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with health, medical, social service, and justice entities to strengthen their capacity for trauma-informed and trauma-specific care.
  • Design and deliver specialized training sessions that incorporate the latest research and evidence-based practices related to trauma.
  • Offer consultations and technical support to organizations in implementing trauma-informed care strategies.
  • Evaluate health, medical, social service, and justice programs to identify strengths and areas for improvement in trauma service delivery.
  • Create educational materials for online and other training formats that facilitate the adoption of trauma-informed practices.
  • Provide training on trauma-informed interventions, including established programs.
  • Deliver trauma-informed training in a train-the-trainer format.
  • Assist service organization staff in identifying and building partnerships with community resources for additional trauma services.
  • Gather and utilize feedback to enhance training content and effectiveness.
  • Work closely with the Head of Trauma Recovery Services and team members.
  • Contribute to the development of online trauma training resources.
  • Maintain communication with IHR's central office using shared digital tools.

Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in social work, mental health, psychology, or a related field, with a focus on trauma and substance use; clinical licensure preferred.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in substance use, trauma, and mental health.
  • Personal experience with substance use and/or trauma recovery is advantageous.
  • Experience in delivering trauma interventions and training.
  • Strong knowledge of harm reduction and substance use disorder treatment.
  • Proven experience in providing training and hands-on support for implementing evidence-based practices.
  • Experience in enhancing clinical systems to facilitate organizational change.
  • Familiarity with treatment resources available in the region.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
