POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under general oversight, the role involves the preparation of federal and state income tax returns, extensions, and estimated payments. This position provides tax support to Fifth Third Bancorp entities to ensure compliance with necessary tax filing requirements.

Accountability for risk management is essential, including the open exchange of ideas, raising concerns, and adherence to established policies and procedures. It is imperative to prioritize ethical actions for both customers and colleagues, fostering a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk parameters, success is achieved by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting various types of risks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of federal income tax returns.
  • Guarantee timely and precise preparation of state income and franchise tax returns.
  • Gather and analyze data necessary for tax return calculations, extensions, and estimated payments.
  • Prepare accurate allocation journal entries in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Initiate payment requests to ensure timely remittance to relevant jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, and Line of Business teams for necessary information.
  • Assist in the quarterly review of federal and state income tax provision journal entries.
  • Analyze state franchise tax accruals and prepare corresponding journal entries.
  • Calculate and maintain deferred income tax balances and taxes payable/receivable for financial statement inclusion.
  • Oversee the recording of tax accounting journal entries.
  • Validate and reconcile general ledger tax accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Conduct research on relevant tax laws, including data analysis related to specific issues.
  • Address corporate tax issues arising during return preparation, both federal and state.
  • Provide support for corporate tax issues during federal and state audits.
  • Assist in responding to Information Document Requests for audits.
SUPERVISORY ROLE:

No supervisory responsibilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance (Accounting preferred).
  • Progress towards CPA or Master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in public accounting or a corporate tax department.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with tax return preparation software (preferably CorpTax) is advantageous.
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills are necessary for interaction with various personnel levels.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Capability to thrive in a professional and dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and logical/critical thinking skills.
