Functional Safety Manager Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Functional Safety Manager to join our dynamic development team at Otis Elevator Co. In this role, you will utilize your expertise to support the development of programmable electronic safety systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the entire safety life cycle for the development of safety systems in elevator control systems.
  • Act as the primary point of contact and manage communications with the notified body during the certification of SIL rated devices.
  • Lead the team in analyzing hardware and software designs for potential hazards using techniques such as FMEA, FMEDA, and risk assessment.
  • Lead the team in the generation and review of all necessary documents during the safety life cycle.
  • Review test plans to ensure adherence to relevant standards.
  • Collaborate with global cross-functional development teams throughout the product life cycle.
  • Keep abreast of relevant safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508 or ISO 26262).
Requirements:
  • Possess an engineering degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Have at least 5 years of experience in functional safety.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in IEC 61508 or ISO 26262.
  • Exhibit a solid understanding of embedded controller hardware and software architectures.
  • Have direct experience working with a notified body or regulating authority.
  • Function safety expert certification (preferred).
