Job Title: Dental Hygienist

We are seeking a skilled Dental Hygienist to join our team at a Periodontics office in Washington DC. As a key member of our dental care team, you will play a vital role in promoting good oral health practices and providing exceptional patient care.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting initial patient screenings, cleaning teeth, scaling and root planning, cancer screenings, and advising patients on oral health and preventative care. You will work closely with dentists to decide treatments for teeth or gum diseases and handle dental emergencies.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure patients feel comfortable and at ease before their examination
  • Assist with sterilizing dental instruments properly
  • Conduct initial mouth screenings and check oral health history
  • Identify conditions like gingivitis, caries or periodontitis
  • Clean and protect patients' teeth (e.g. remove tartar or apply fluoride)
  • Educate patients of all ages on proper teeth care (by demonstrating, for example, good brushing techniques)
  • Give instructions to patients after operations or other dental procedures
  • Take X-rays, Perio Chart, and do oral cancer screening
  • Assist dentists with selecting appropriate treatments for various diseases
  • Maintain documentation and charts on each patient using Dentrix/Carestack
  • Monitor hygiene supplies
Requirements:
  • Valid Registered Dental Hygienist license to practice in Washington, DC (required)
  • Associate's degree (preferred)
  • Diploma in Dental Hygiene
  • Proven experience as Dental Hygienist or similar role (new graduates encouraged)
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations in this profession (e.g. HIPAA)
  • Experience in preparing and maintaining dental equipment
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • A patient and friendly personality
  • Attention to detail
  • Stamina to meet the physical demands of the job

We offer a competitive salary of $62 - $68 per hour depending on experience and a 3-day work week with potential for 4 days. If you have a steady hand and great bedside manner, we'd like to speak with you.
