Patient Care Assistant in Texarkana TX

Overview:

Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or licensed Nurse, this role involves assisting with routine and repetitive patient care tasks within a healthcare setting. This position also encompasses specific administrative, organizational, and patient-centered responsibilities. The tasks focused on patient care will be supportive in nature.

Key Responsibilities:


• Adheres to the relevant OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

• Aids in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes of patients.

• Completes necessary documentation.

• Prepares patient rooms for new admissions by setting up IV equipment and adjusting beds to the appropriate height.

• Ensures that all personal belongings accompany patients during transfers or discharges.

• Safely transports stable patients as required.

• Maintains confidentiality and security while transporting patients and interacting with their families and visitors.

• Cleans, acquires, and returns medical equipment and supplies.

• Runs errands for the nursing unit as needed.

• Assists licensed personnel in maintaining a safe and comfortable environment; replenishes patient rooms with water, linens, and towels as necessary.

• Performs unit-specific patient care tasks according to established protocols and documents on the appropriate forms.

• Recognizes significant changes in patients' conditions and promptly reports these to the supervising nurse.

• Assists with inventory management and ordering of stock items as required.

• Keeps unit supplies organized and orderly.

• Responds appropriately to emergency situations.

• Communicates effectively with team members during and between shifts.

• Responds to patient call lights and phone inquiries.

• Adapts patient assessment, treatment, and care methods to meet the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and developmental needs of each patient served.

• Demonstrates the ability to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the specific needs of the patient population served by the department.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required.
  • CNA License in the state of employment is required.
