Job Title: Substation Equipment Specialist

Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Substation Equipment Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise in the design, installation, and maintenance of substation electrical equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and review electrical equipment specifications, technical analysis of bid proposals, and review of manufacturers' designs and drawings.
  • Conduct field inspections and provide technical guidance to resolve system and equipment problems.
  • Prepare equipment and accessory purchase specifications, review and evaluate manufacturers' proposals and drawings.
  • Ensure that the department is kept up to date on project progress, including budget updates.
  • Provide input for the development and update of equipment health indices and recommend planned equipment replacements.
  • Interface with equipment manufacturers, industry standards, and R&D organizations.
  • Perform vendor qualification activities and approve equipment suitable for our transmission and area substations.
  • Conduct and participate in field evaluation/analysis of field equipment or system misoperation, prepares failure analysis reports and other analyses as may be required.
  • Prepare test procedures for equipment commissioning or post-repair restoration.
  • Participate in the Company's Emergency Response Plan through a designated storm assignment.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and 3-5 years of total work experience in development and application of technical principles in substation equipment rating, application, specification, engineering, operation, and maintenance.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 2 years of total work experience in development and application of technical principles in substation equipment rating, application, specification, engineering, operation, and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and industry standards associated with the equipment.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of substation layout and major equipment including breakers, switches, and substation steel.
  • The ability to interpret layout, one-line, and schematic drawings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical, technical, and computer skills.
  • Proficiency with IEEE/ANSI Standards and National Electrical Safety Code.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in NY, NJ, and PA.
  • Ability to write specifications and standards and coordinate engineering projects and assignments.
