Surgical Services Assistant

Job Title: Surgery Aide OR Full Time Days
Job Summary:
The Detroit Medical Center is seeking a skilled Surgery Aide to join our team in the Operating Room. As a key member of our perioperative team, you will provide direct and indirect patient care, ensuring a safe and clean environment for our patients.
Responsibilities:
- Perform terminal cleaning of the operating room and prepare rooms for new patients.
- Clean and re-make patient stretchers and beds, and responsible for assigned areas for restocking and cleanliness.
- Participate in OR suite turnovers between cases.
- Deliver specimens, labs, blood, to and from OR.
- Transport patients as directed by a nurse.
- Follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment (PPE) as required per policy.
- Perform all duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- BLS.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Good analytical and observational problem-solving skills.
- Mathematical ability to perform calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies used in the work environment.
- A high level of interpersonal and verbal skill and teamwork commitment to effectively function as a team member in support of all services delivered on the patient unit and to effectively communicate with patients, their families and other hospital personnel to address customer needs.
- Good reading, writing and comprehension skills to understand, effectively communicate and contribute to procedures, processes, orders, methods, and standards.
- Physical ability to regularly (80-90% of work time) walk and stand; lift soiled linens and move equipment as necessary; assist patients in repositioning, bed to stretcher transferring, basic activities of daily living and maintenance locomotion requiring lifting (very heavy 60+ pounds), bending, pulling, pushing, standing, and walking.
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity.
- Ability to perform routine clerical functions such as answering telephones, taking messages and basic retrieval of computer information.
- Demonstrates willingness to make a meaningful contribution to the work environment as evidenced through behavior and attitude.
