Position Summary:
The Facilities Operations Manager is tasked with the oversight of the upkeep and repair of all campus facilities, which include academic buildings, residence halls, and athletic complexes. This role requires strong leadership skills to guide a substantial team of maintenance professionals and to collaborate with various departments to ensure that all maintenance tasks are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. The Facilities Operations Manager is essential in maintaining a safe, comfortable, and functional environment for the campus community. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in facilities management and project oversight, along with exceptional interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, supervise, and mentor a diverse team of maintenance technicians and supervisors, providing direction to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
  • Plan, schedule, and prioritize maintenance activities based on campus needs, ensuring timely completion of all work.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance strategies to keep campus facilities in optimal condition and reduce emergency repair needs.
  • Coordinate with other departments to align maintenance and repair activities, minimizing disruptions to campus operations.
  • Manage budgets for maintenance and repair projects, ensuring adherence to financial constraints.
  • Oversee the procurement of necessary materials and supplies for maintenance tasks, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, as well as campus policies and procedures.
  • Implement and uphold quality control and assurance policies, ensuring timely reporting to all relevant parties.
  • Establish and enforce policies and procedures related to maintenance operations, ensuring staff awareness and compliance.
  • Provide regular updates on maintenance operations to the Director of Facilities Management, including progress and financial reports.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in facilities management within a higher education setting, including experience leading large maintenance teams.
  • Strong project management capabilities, with a proven track record in planning and executing large-scale maintenance projects.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with a history of motivating staff to achieve organizational goals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local regulations governing maintenance and repair work.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify challenges and develop effective solutions.
  • Familiarity with budgeting and financial management principles.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software tools.
