Program Overview

The Out of School Time (OST) program at Belmont Charter, Belmont Academy, and Inquiry Charter offers extensive programming designed to ensure student safety and success in both academic and life skills. Our approach incorporates Project-Based Learning, experiential learning, and service learning models, allowing student voices to flourish while promoting their academic, enrichment, and social-emotional development.

Position Summary:

The Afterschool Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing afternoon care for students in PreK-8th Grade. This role involves planning engaging lessons and facilitating after-school clubs, projects, and group activities centered around a project-based learning framework. The coordinator will also establish partnerships with community organizations to enhance programming diversity and engagement. This is a part-time position with hours from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM, supervised by the OST Director at each school, with a competitive hourly wage.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Student Engagement:
  • Develop lesson plans based on project-based learning themes focusing on S.T.E.M., arts, physical education, and social-emotional learning (SEL).
  • Prepare and lead significant OST projects and activities with student groups.
  • Facilitate OST clubs through special activities and projects with selected students.
  • Supervise students during play and project activities.
  • Monitor student attendance and conduct headcounts during dismissal.
  • Maintain OST spaces and lead daily organization of materials.
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with OST families.
  • Guide students during OST field trips and presentations.
  • Assist with the school-day dismissal of enrolled after-care students.
  • Provide daily snacks and manage student breaks.
Administrative Duties:
  • Report to the OST Director and Site Coordinator for daily updates.
  • Assist with student dismissal and late pick-up as needed.
  • Complete required child care professional development certifications.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Basic computer and internet proficiency.
  • Strong written communication and lesson planning abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially with young children.
  • Creative, energetic, and passionate about after-school enrichment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with effective follow-through.
Education and Experience:
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent (higher education preferred).
  • Certification or degree in early childhood education is advantageous.
  • Special enrichment certifications (teaching artist, educational, or vocational) are a plus.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in child care within a facility or school-based program.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • Current CPR certification is preferred.
  • Mandated Reporter Certification is beneficial.
  • All candidates must provide necessary background checks before employment.
