Position: Surface Grinder

The Surface Grinder role involves the setup, programming, and operation of various machine tools to manufacture precision metal components, instruments, and tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, or CAD/CAM files for production.
  • Set up and operate grinding machinery to create specific tooling components.
  • Align, secure, and adjust cutting tools and workpieces as necessary.
  • Grind machine parts to meet high tolerance specifications.
  • Measure, examine, and test components to ensure they conform to specifications and are defect-free.
  • Accurately record labor time for each task.
  • Present finished products to the next department for further processing.
  • Calculate and verify dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of components.
  • Assist customers with various manufacturing processes as required.
  • Inspect the work area to identify any equipment or safety issues.
  • Utilize measuring instruments such as micrometers, comparators, and dial indicators.
  • Operate additional equipment in other departments as needed.
  • Employ logic and reasoning to evaluate solutions and approaches to problems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Select and dress grinding wheels appropriately.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a similar environment.
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading and metalworking.
  • Willingness to pursue additional training for skill enhancement.
  • Ability to use common hand tools effectively.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong mathematical skills are essential.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and push a minimum of 100 pounds.
