Contract Duration: 1+ year

Location: Remote (Local candidates preferred)

Position Summary:

As a senior professional, you will be responsible for the provisioning, configuration, operation, and maintenance of both physical and virtual server environments, ensuring alignment with business processing needs. This role demands extensive expertise in virtualization, leveraging unified computing, storage, and networking resources. Key responsibilities include:
  • Creating resource templates and optimizing performance while ensuring availability and minimizing risks.
  • Providing administrative support for extensive storage systems and cloud-based solutions.
  • Executing ongoing lifecycle maintenance tasks such as monitoring, tuning, patching, and securing IT resources, adhering to established policies and ITIL frameworks.
  • Assisting in the development of standard operating procedures to maintain consistent and optimal performance for operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Taking a fresh approach to complex problem-solving, working independently with minimal guidance, and mentoring less experienced colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducting complex operating system provisioning and administration, including patch management.
  • Collaborating with application users and data owners to maintain access controls and coordinate system lifecycle events.
  • Managing technology projects in line with DevOps principles.
  • Proactively monitoring and analyzing multi-platform computing environments to maintain high reliability and availability.
  • Identifying cost-effective infrastructure solutions that meet stringent security and availability standards.
  • Implementing equipment with practical knowledge of DNS, LAN subnetting, and basic routing principles.
  • Documenting and communicating standards for operating systems, physical hosts, and ancillary resources.
  • Leading major incidents and problems through root cause analysis and effective team communication.
  • Monitoring systems for availability and performance, providing periodic metrics reporting.
  • Adhering to established IT processes for change, configuration, and problem management, including regulatory requirements.
  • Acting as a technical lead on assigned projects and ensuring task completion.
  • Engaging in professional development activities.
  • Conducting routine audits of server hardware and software for compliance.
  • Designing and developing a comprehensive inventory and monitoring system for supported hardware and software.
  • Ensuring data recoverability through a robust backup program tailored to operating systems and applications.

Minimum Qualifications:

At least nine years of experience in system configuration, operation, or a related IT field. A degree in computer science, information technology, or a relevant discipline may substitute for some experience based on client guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in computer science, information technology, or a relevant field.
  • Certifications related to systems administration, storage, or virtualization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient in Windows and Linux operating systems and administration.
  • Experienced with VMware virtualized hypervisor architecture and administration.
  • Familiar with Powershell and other scripting languages.
  • Knowledgeable in DevOps and cloud deployments, including Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
  • Understanding of unified computing systems and blade server architecture.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery practices.
  • Familiar with security best practices for systems, software, and services.
  • Understanding of storage architecture and administration.
  • Working knowledge of LAN/WAN, routing, switching, and subnetting.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies such as VMware, OpenStack, and CloudStack.
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes, including change and incident management.
  • Skilled in Active Directory provisioning, design, and operation.
  • Proficient in provisioning storage resources using protocols like iSCSI, FCoE, CIFS, and NFS.
  • Experienced in provisioning and administering virtual servers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including documentation and presentation abilities.
  • Intermediate proficiency in office productivity applications.
  • Adept at analyzing and solving complex problems.
  • Effective communicator with team members and management under various conditions.
  • Able to build relationships and foster teamwork.
  • Capable of managing competing high-priority work demands.

Work Environment:
  • Work hours are primarily in an office or home office setting.
  • May require work during weekends, holidays, and non-standard hours.
