Position: Assistant Project Manager - Commercial Construction

Role Overview:

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) is tasked with acquiring, assessing, coordinating, and disseminating the essential information and approvals required to execute projects punctually, within financial constraints, and to the specified quality standards. The APM plays a crucial role in safeguarding and advancing the interests of both the organization and the client in all relevant matters while exhibiting the traits of an emerging leader. Although pathways for learning, growth, and advancement may differ, the majority of team members serve as APMs for a duration of two to six years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold HITT's safety standards rigorously.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation is accurately filed.
  • Assist in the formulation and oversight of project budgets for all assigned initiatives.
  • Develop pre-construction Request for Proposal (RFP) packages.
  • Aid in the organization of project meetings, establish milestones, and prepare monthly reports for owners.
  • Define job processes (Requests for Information, submittals, and payment applications), including the approval of payment applications and negotiation of subcontractor change orders.
  • Revise project schedules; ensure quality control and establish comprehensive project logistics.
  • Support the management of the project closeout process.
  • Collaborate with the project superintendent and site operations team throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma is required; a four-year degree from an accredited institution with a focus on construction, engineering, or business is highly preferred.
  • In the absence of a degree, relevant work experience will be considered.
  • 2-5 years of experience in commercial construction, particularly with a commercial general contractor.
  • Prior experience on commercial job sites is strongly preferred.
  • A genuine passion for construction and the industry; ability to identify and pursue quality.
  • Proficiency in sector/project-specific software systems, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), ProCore, Adobe, BlueBeam, JD Edwards.
  • Must exhibit a strong capability to:
    • Communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally, with a strong emphasis on audience-appropriate business writing and verbal skills.
    • Demonstrate a positive attitude and enthusiasm for construction and the industry.
    • Collect data, interpret it into meaningful insights, and convey that information through clear and concise communication strategies; understand how various components and processes influence the broader business model.
    • Organize and prioritize tasks effectively.
    • Consistently uphold integrity in alignment with The HITT Way and HITT's core values.
    • Pursue continuous improvement in knowledge and skills, focusing on self-development.
    • Adapt and remain flexible in response to the evolving landscape of technology, design, methods, and practices.
