Job Title: Therapeutic Assistant

Richland One is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Therapeutic Assistant to join our team. As a Therapeutic Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with emotional and behavioral challenges, helping them to achieve academic and social success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist students with classroom assignments and provide individualized support to help them stay focused and on task.
  • Remove students from the classroom setting when their behavior is a disturbance or poses a risk to themselves or others, and provide a safe and calm environment for them to regulate their emotions.
  • Counsel students on behavior management strategies and work with psychologists and teachers to develop individualized plans to support student success.
  • Provide one-on-one, family, and group counseling to students, and develop and implement recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities to promote positive behavior and academic achievement.
  • Assist teachers in modifying class lessons and activities to meet the needs of individual students, and work with colleagues and parents to develop strategies to enhance student performance and behavior.
  • Stay up-to-date with developments and innovations in the field of special education and mental health.
  • Prepare and submit various records and reports, including daily reports, monthly reports, incident reports, referrals, and correspondence.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment, including computers, typewriters, copiers, telephones, and audio-visual equipment.
  • Interact and communicate with various groups and individuals, including supervisors, administrators, consultants, teachers, psychologists, medical professionals, social workers, and students.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, special education, child development, or a closely related field.
  • One year of related special education or mental health experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to work with students with emotional and behavioral challenges, and to develop and implement individualized plans to support student success.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other professionals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Physical ability to lift and move students, and to operate a variety of equipment and machinery.
Working Conditions:

The Therapeutic Assistant will work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with frequent interactions with students, teachers, and other professionals. The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment. The Therapeutic Assistant will be required to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, organized, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. They will have a strong commitment to supporting students with emotional and behavioral challenges, and will be able to develop and implement individualized plans to support student success.
