Job Title: Psychiatric Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled Psychiatric Nurse to join our team at Centers for Independence. As a Psychiatric Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing holistic nursing care to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.

Job Summary:

The Psychiatric Nurse will be responsible for assessing and treating responses to actual and potential mental and physical health conditions, promoting wellness, and referring individuals to appropriate medical care. This is a highly skilled position that requires the ability to work effectively with internal and external systems to assist individuals in achieving their treatment and recovery goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide transportation to clients as needed, and administer medications as required.
  • Understand and demonstrate treatment guidelines specified in DHS 63 (Community Support Programs for Chronically Mentally Ill Persons).
  • Assist clients in medication management and coordination, including maintaining medication records and collaborating with medical professionals.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external systems to assist individuals in achieving their treatment and recovery goals.
  • Provide comprehensive assessment, re-assessment, care planning, direct nursing care interventions, and termination of care within program guidelines and professional practices.
  • Accurately document services and maintain thorough client records.
  • Provide consultation and training to program staff regarding health-related issues.
  • Notify case managers and psychiatric providers of any psychiatric symptoms or behavior changes that may require intervention.
  • Develop strategies for providing patient education and medication monitoring.
  • Provide training to staff on appropriate policy and procedure for medication management.
  • Monitor and report medication errors as necessary.
  • Ensure safe storage of clients' medications according to State regulations.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings, staff meetings, in-service training seminars, and conferences as required.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in Nursing required.
  • At least 1,000 hours of clinical experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
  • Current CPR certification or obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license and automobile insurance with minimum limits of $50,000/$100,000 bodily injury and $10,000 property damage.
  • Knowledge of mental illness, substance use disorders, psychopharmacology, and evidenced-based practices specific to the needs of clients.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel.
  • Professional workplace appearance and conduct; friendliness and courtesy to consumers, coworkers, and vendors.
Working Conditions:

This position may work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments in the community, including various weather conditions, loud noises, and fluctuating temperatures. Possible exposure to blood and body fluids, hazardous materials, and infectious diseases.
