The Department of Justice seeks a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Attorney General to serve as general legal counsel to the Department of Correction. This position will provide critical support to the Department of Correction, advising on correctional legal issues, drafting correspondence and pleadings, and representing the Department in significant civil and criminal matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise the Department of Correction on correctional legal issues, including compliance with constitutional, statutory, and regulatory obligations.
  • Draft correspondence and pleadings related to sentence modification, medical care, programming, and good time calculations.
  • Represent the Department of Correction in significant civil and criminal matters.
  • Collaborate with the Public Safety Unit to advise on labor and human relations issues.
  • Provide agency training on emerging legal issues.
Requirements
  • Membership in the Delaware Bar Association.
  • Experience with correctional and criminal law, legislative drafting, procurement, and contract/settlement compliance monitoring.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and address operational issues to minimize or avoid future legal action.
