Job Overview

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Instructional Specialist to join our team. This role will provide crucial academic, emotional, and physical support to students with disabilities, advocating for their needs and ensuring they receive the educational services required to succeed.

The successful candidate will manage all aspects of the school's Special Education programs, coordinate instruction, and collaborate with teachers, families, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with City, State, and Federal special education laws and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Instruction
    • Review intake assessments to ensure students receive necessary educational services and instructional methods aligned with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
    • Coordinate and provide pull-out, push-in, small group, and one-on-one instruction.
    • Schedule, coordinate, and facilitate Special Education team, IEP, and pre-referral meetings.
    • Manage evaluation process, including conducting classroom observations and testing.
    • Partner with general education teachers to advocate for classroom accommodations required by 504 plans and IEs.
    • Work closely with families in all grades to address needs throughout the IEP process and support student growth.
    • Maintain student records regarding special education issues and prepare reports for regulatory agencies.
    • Use standards-based assessment data to refine and differentiate curriculum and instruction.
  • Special Education Coordinator-Specific Responsibilities:
    • Oversight of writing and implementation of IEPs and 504s to ensure students receive services.
    • Annual IEP and 504 meetings with students and their families.
    • Collaboration with general education teachers, school leaders, and families to analyze trends in student work samples and assessments and ensure compliance with IEPs.
    • Gathering academic growth data and writing goals for annual IEP meetings.
    • Taught pull-out, push-in, small group, and one-on-one instruction, implementing strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners.
  • School Culture
    • Build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard.
    • Partner with students' families to ensure resources are available to support their child's learning needs.
    • Engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
    • Participate in weekly school-wide meetings to cultivate community, model core values, and encourage student achievement.
    • Partner with grade level team to develop academic goals and practice instructional strategies.

    Salary and Benefits

The starting salary for this role is approximately $65,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience. We also offer an array of benefits, including generous paid time off, extensive training and development opportunities, and comprehensive health insurance plans.
