Medical Assistant Professional

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team at WellSpan Health Services. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities- Obtain and document patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, BMI, respirations, and pulse.
- Collect and process specimens as directed by the provider, ensuring proper handling, storage, and tracking.
- Ensure patient care areas are adequately stocked with medical supplies and equipment, and that all instruments and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained.
- Prepare patients for scheduled procedures, including setting up instruments and supplies, and using Standard Precautions for all patient encounters.
- Arrange for patients' diagnostic and therapeutic services, including completing necessary paperwork and scheduling appointments.
- Under the direction of the provider, track, review, and monitor follow-up of diagnostic test results, and relay information to patients regarding results and follow-up instructions.
- Prepare and administer vaccines, medications, and controlled substances/narcotics as prescribed by the provider, and ask prescribed screening questions to identify risks and contraindications.
- Document and process prescription requests and refills per protocol, and perform basic office procedures, examinations, and/or tests ordered by the provider.
- Provide patients with standard patient care instructions and education, and review with patients and family members as directed by providers.
- Obtain comprehensive health information from patients/family members to review with providers or clinical resources over the phone, and use this information to assist providers in determining the urgency for care or an alternative venue for care.
- Complete pre-visit planning and visit prep according to established guidelines, and obtain comprehensive health information from patients/family members at the time of the visit.
- Efficiently manage daily patient flow to manage fluctuating patient volumes and demands, and prioritize daily patient care tasks and activities delegated by the care team.
- Take ownership in an office function/process improvement under the direction of your supervisor, and maintain strict confidentiality of patient's health information.
- Support the provider during the visit and patient exam by collecting and entering information in the patient record, carrying out orders, and completing post-visit patient care education and instructions.
- Certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assistant program (Diploma) or National Medical Assistant Certification upon hire required.
- Basic Life Support upon hire required.
