Job Summary:

The Food Pantry Assistant will provide logistical support to the daily food distribution center operations of the Food Pantry, including managing on-hand, incoming, and outgoing food inventory, ordering, donations, and transport preparation. The successful candidate will also demonstrate strong professional skills and integrity, including in stressful and/or emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage food inventory, including ordering, donations, and transport preparation.
  • Transport food via van or truck, as necessary.
  • Demonstrate strong professional skills and integrity, including in stressful and/or emergency situations.
  • Work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Support other pantries as needed, including traveling to other sites.
  • Attend and participate in required internal and external meetings and trainings.
  • Communicate sensitively and effectively with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the operation of the food pantry meets all health and safety requirements.

Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent vocational/technical training.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.
  • A valid license with 5+ years of driving experience, good driving record, and willingness to drive 16' and 26' trucks and pantry vans.
  • Bi-lingual speaking ability preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without the use of an assistive device.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail.
