Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Direct Support Specialist to join our team at Frontier Health. As a Direct Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in achieving their highest level of independence.
Responsibilities:
- Provide support and education to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to promote their independence and self-advocacy.
- Assist individuals with daily living skills, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household chores.
- Transport individuals to and from appointments, social events, and work-related activities.
- Implement and document outcomes of individuals in their Individual Support Plans (ISPs).
- Complete required documentation thoroughly and accurately.
- Ensure the health and safety of individuals and their belongings at all times.
- Follow procedures to report any suspicion of abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation.
- Be knowledgeable of all aspects of the ISP, including special programs/plans, and notify the supervisor of any needed changes.
- Recommend any needed changes in goals/outcomes and risks (health or otherwise).
- Treat individuals with dignity and respect at all times.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED preferred with applicable experience.
- Valid Tennessee driver's license Class D, F Endorsement. Eligible for FH drivers' insurance.
- Experience in intellectual, developmental, and/or mental health disabilities preferred.
- Verbal/written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations.
- Ability to safely operate 15-passenger van or other vehicle as assigned.
- Knowledge of adaptive/medical and/or production/maintenance equipment.
Working Conditions:
This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to adapt to changing situations. The Direct Support Specialist will be required to work in a variety of settings, including residential, community, and employment settings.
