Role Overview:

This position is integral to the New Shepard program, a pioneering reusable suborbital rocket system designed for transporting astronauts and research payloads beyond the Karman line, the recognized threshold of space. By focusing on operational reusability, New Shepard plays a crucial role in our goal of making space more accessible.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in the development of advanced parachute technology for the New Shepard human-rated spacecraft.
  • Participate in all phases of design, analysis, construction, testing, flight operations, and maintenance.
  • Contribute to requirements derivation, conceptual and detailed design, system performance modeling, and structural assessments.
  • Involve in development and qualification testing, including planning, execution, data analysis, and reduction.
  • Create component and assembly drawings along with documentation for assembly and testing processes.
  • Identify design modifications aimed at enhancing system reliability and minimizing operational expenses.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the aerospace or decelerator sectors.
  • Demonstrated mechanical design expertise in aerospace or related fields, utilizing metallic and/or composite materials.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (preferably Creo Pro/E).
  • Experience in structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using tools like ANSYS or NASTRAN.
  • Background in production support, configuration management, and handling nonconforming materials.
  • Strong project management and coordination skills to effectively manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent digital proficiency with the ability to quickly adapt to various software tools.
  • Ability to foster trust and maintain positive professional relationships within a diverse team.
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful residency is required.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to support operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in engineering.
  • Over 5 years of experience in design and testing of capsule recovery systems, including integrated decelerator systems.
  • Familiarity with both destructive and non-destructive testing methods.
  • Experience with data analysis and reduction using MATLAB or similar software.
