The AESC Group is seeking an experienced Environmental Health and Safety Manager to join our team in Florence, SC. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing environmental, safety, and health support to production and corporate personnel.
You will assist in maintaining environmental, safety, and health programs and objectives, and coordinate safety training programs. Additionally, you will monitor environmental, safety, and health regulations and provide technical support to plant and administrative staff to ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in safety science, engineering, or industrial engineering, and a minimum of five years of experience supporting safety, health, and environmental operations in a manufacturing/production environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads a team of safety specialists covering all production lines, logistics, and facility areas.
- Provides technical environmental, safety, and health support to production and corporate personnel.
- Prepares and updates written environmental, safety, and health programs and policies.
- Identifies company safety training needs. Develops and coordinates safety training programs.
- Develops annual company environmental, safety, and health KPI targets for local site.
- Supports onboarding training of new members to site team.
- Participates in new product/process reviews, including hazard analyses, operator training, etc.
- Supports corporate/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize environmental, safety, and occupational health hazards.
- Supports plant personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Maintains local environmental and safety library (e.g., videos, regulations, reference manuals).
- Serves as a member of the environmental, health and safety steering committee.
- Oversees facility compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a safety science, engineering or industrial engineering discipline.
- A minimum of five years of experience supporting safety, health and environmental operations in a manufacturing/production environment.
- CSP/CIH/CHMM certification preferred.
- HAZWOPER 24 hour certified.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certified; Trainer certification preferred.
- Knowledge of chemical manufacturing operations a plus.
- Extensive knowledge of State and Federal safety standards. A working knowledge of ergonomic standards and evaluation tools; working knowledge of the company manufacturing processes.
- Understands and is experienced in SC workers compensation statutes and case law; understands and is experienced in SC claims and case management is a plus.
- Able to work cross-functionally and communicate clearly with staff in Operations, Maintenance, Production, Engineering, Quality, Human Resources and Research and Development.

Travel:

Work Environment:
The work environment is primarily an automated manufacturing plant with a concrete floor and is characterized by some temperature extremes, moderate noise, and forklift traffic.
The individual must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings, and with employees, management, customers and suppliers.
