About the Role:

Vulcan Materials Company is seeking an Accounting Intern to join our team in Birmingham, AL. As a member of our Accounting team, you will be exposed to our business and learn how the accounting functions support the success of our business.

The internship will be designed to deliver experiences across multiple accounting functions, such as general ledger and month-end closing, fixed assets, lease accounting, accounts receivable, credit, accounts payable, income tax, financial reporting and internal controls.

You will become a member of these teams, assisting them in their day-to-day activities, learning the fundamentals of these accounting functions and the value they deliver, and participating in process improvement or transformation projects that are in flight.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports
  • Participate in the month-end closing process
  • Learn and apply accounting principles and practices
  • Develop skills in financial analysis and problem-solving
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve business objectives

Requirements:

  • Enrolled in good standing with your college and pursuing a degree in a related field to the internship
  • Junior or Senior level is preferred
  • Previous work experience would be a plus but is not required
  • Technology proficiency (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Google Mail)
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work on teams, take instruction, and a desire to learn
  • Self-starter; ability to work well without direct supervision
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving
