Key Responsibilities
The Lynchburg Location and Design Section of VDOT is looking for two skilled Transportation Infrastructure Engineers to create, oversee, and produce right-of-way and construction plans for various transportation initiatives using state-of-the-art engineering and design software. Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as project manager, which encompasses preparing quantities and estimates, developing and maintaining timelines, overseeing project activities, and compiling and presenting engineering data.
- Offering technical expertise on roadway design matters from the initial engineering phase through to construction.
Essential Qualifications
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with a diverse range of audiences.
- Experience with roadway design criteria, construction techniques, standards, specifications, and materials.
- Proficiency in applying design standards, specifications, policies, and procedures.
- Solid understanding of civil engineering principles as they pertain to roadway design and technical knowledge.
- Adept at building relationships with colleagues, field personnel, contractors, manufacturers, and FHWA representatives.
- Competence in utilizing computers and software applications, including engineering and design tools.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively.
- Commitment to delivering outstanding customer service.
- Knowledge of roadway safety principles that influence design standards and specialized designs.
Additional Considerations
- Experience in roadway design and project management for transportation initiatives is preferred.
- A combination of education, training, or experience in Civil Engineering or a related field is desirable.
- Possession of an Engineering in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license is advantageous.
