River Edge Behavioral Health is a leading provider of mental health, substance use disorder treatment, and support services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Georgia. We offer a comprehensive continuum of care to over 13,000 children, youth, families, and adults annually who experience mental illness, addiction, co-occurring disorders, or developmental disabilities.

The River Edge Recovery Center is a residential alternative to inpatient hospitalization, offering 24-hour walk-in outpatient services, a 23-hour observation unit, crisis residential psychiatric stabilization, and medically monitored detoxification services.

We are seeking a full-time Certified Peer Specialist to provide support in our Adult and Child & Adolescent Units.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide a wide range of paraprofessional social services to patients, families, and consumers. Participate actively in treatment team planning and perform crisis intervention when needed.
  • Assist clients in addressing personal and social challenges.
  • Offer supportive counseling to consumers and families or act as a liaison for social service connections.
  • Develop engaging lesson plans for group topics, maintain accurate medical records, and document daily group notes.
  • Manage caseloads effectively, conduct group skills training, and refer clients to appropriate services and resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Candidates must have a primary diagnosis of mental illness or a dual diagnosis of mental illness and addictive disease, demonstrating a strong desire to identify as a person with mental illness (current or former consumer of mental health services).
  • Applicants must possess a GED or High School diploma.
  • Strong reading comprehension and written communication skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, advocacy, or governance is required. Candidates should be well-grounded in their recovery journey (one year between diagnosis and application to the training).
  • Must meet the qualifications for Peer Specialist as defined by the DBHDD Peer Specialist Project.

All applicants must pass a satisfactory background clearance and pre-employment drug test.
