Position Overview:
The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by preparing specimens for analysis. This involves accurately processing orders through the Laboratory Information System (LIS), ensuring specimen acceptability, and executing established pre-analytical procedures in line with laboratory protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
This position supports clinical laboratories by addressing issues related to specimens and orders, as well as responding to inquiries regarding test results and specimen collection criteria. The MLT is expected to perform duties with a strong focus on customer service, maintaining a courteous and efficient approach at all times.
Testing and Reporting:
The Medical Lab Technician is responsible for conducting precise and timely testing, reporting results to physicians and healthcare professionals for effective diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
Professional Skills:
Excellent customer service skills are essential for interacting with both internal and external clients. The MLT must demonstrate a positive and professional demeanor, contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Qualifications:
Licensure and Certification:
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent accrediting bodies is required. New graduates must obtain certification within a specified timeframe after hiring.
Education:
An Associate Degree in Clinical/Medical Lab Sciences or a related field from an accredited institution is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science is preferred.
Work Environment:
This position may require rotating weekends and holiday scheduling, as well as on-call availability for emergency coverage.
