As a key member of our diagnostic imaging team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to nuclear medicine procedures, including preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals, conducting diagnostic tests, and maintaining accurate records.
Key Responsibilities- Competently perform basic to intermediate nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including general and cardiac scans.
- Review patient medical records to obtain necessary clinical information and compare requisitions to physician orders to ensure exam accuracy.
- Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals and procedural adjunctive medication by proper route per clinician prescription and according to approved exam parameters.
- Perform venipuncture and placement of peripheral IV catheters for medication administration, as well as access other vascular access devices as determined by department training and need.
- Follow correct procedures for handling radioactive materials and understand and implement ALARA measures.
- Maintain accurate records of pharmaceutical doses and relay pertinent patient history information to appropriate staff and departments.
- Post-process images as directed and accurately identify and label images, including patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images.
- Enter patient and study information into the radiology information system and document billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges.
- Identify equipment performance issues and perform equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures, reporting malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff.
- Perform various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
- Nuclear Medicine Tech (N) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist certification (CNMT) issued by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Nuclear Medicine.
- No experience required.
This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, and twist throughout the workday. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance. The position may also involve exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards, as well as blood and body fluids, requiring the use of personal protective equipment as necessary.
