Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Medical Assistant II to join our team at UNC Health. As a Medical Assistant II, you will provide routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other healthcare team members in an outpatient clinic setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform rooming and intake processes, collecting and documenting patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, and medical history.
  • Collect patient and family data, including medical and social history, and review current medication lists, allergies, and preferred pharmacies.
  • Assist providers with treatments, examinations, and procedures, and collect specimens and perform phlebotomy as needed.
  • Administer medications under the direction of a provider and perform tests, such as EKGs and eye exams, under the direction of a provider.
  • Review patient records to determine whether patients require routine health screenings and ensure exam and treatment rooms are properly stocked and maintained.
  • Provide patients with after-visit instructions and educational materials as directed, and assist with patient registration, check-in, and appointment scheduling.
  • Answer clinic telephones and assist with in-basket tasks under the direction of a provider or nurse, and assist in emergency situations as directed.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required; completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by either CAAHEP or ABHES is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Medical Assistant certification by either AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA required; Basic Life Support Certification from AHA or ARC required.
  • At least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified, and demonstrated possession of the competencies outlined in the Medical Assistant, Certified Advancement Worksheet.
