Renewable Energy Operations Engineer

Position Overview

This role is responsible for overseeing the daily management and upkeep of renewable energy facilities, with a primary focus on solar power systems. Key responsibilities include:

  • Administering contracts with operations and maintenance (O&M) service providers to ensure peak performance of renewable energy assets.
  • Assisting in the development of O&M strategies for both existing and prospective renewable energy projects.
  • Engaging in the formulation of O&M contracts for renewable facilities that are under consideration for acquisition or development.
  • Supporting thorough evaluations of asset purchases and new project developments.
  • Creating and managing capital and O&M budgets to maximize profitability and ensure efficient use of third-party resources.
  • Handling the processing of monthly and quarterly financial documents related to company expenses.
  • Analyzing operational data and implementing strategies to enhance the efficiency of renewable facilities.
  • Collaborating with performance engineering teams to leverage operational insights for continuous improvement.
  • Proactively addressing equipment malfunctions and plant downtimes remotely to facilitate timely resolutions.
  • Formulating and executing strategic initiatives aimed at optimizing solar operations while nurturing strong partnerships with plant staff, finance teams, and industry collaborators.
  • Participating in regular meetings and status updates with contractor management and operational teams.
  • Organizing site assessments of renewable energy facilities.
  • Preparing status reports and presentations for executive updates.
  • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory and legal standards.
  • Gaining a comprehensive understanding of plant operations and effectively communicating updates and resolutions to management and stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with various departments within the organization, including but not limited to Generation Support, Commercial Optimization, Trading, and Compliance, regarding renewable operations.
  • Engaging in project teams to evaluate the operational and financial risks associated with renewable energy initiatives.
  • Attending industry conferences to build and strengthen relationships with peers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

This position may allow for flexible reporting options, including potential work from existing renewable facilities.

Qualifications

Education

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field is preferred.

Experience

Candidates should possess experience in the following areas:

  • At least 3 years of experience in power plant operations and maintenance, including but not limited to battery, photovoltaic, wind, or fossil fuel generation.
  • Proven project management capabilities, including scope, schedule, and budget oversight.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in contract management.
  • Successful management of multiple medium to large-scale projects from inception to completion.

Preferred experience includes:

  • Management of capital and O&M budgets.
  • Familiarity with asset management systems, such as Maximo.
  • Ability to analyze operational data, with experience in PI or OIS being advantageous.
  • Competence in interpreting engineering schematics (P&ID, single line diagrams, etc.).
  • Capability to develop and convey Key Performance Indicators to stakeholders.

Additional relevant experience may include:

  • Power plant design and construction.
  • Development of generation projects.
  • Utility system planning.
