Position Overview
The Speech Language Pathologist provides specialized clinical services within the rehabilitation department. This role encompasses the assessment, reassessment, formulation, and execution of individualized care plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborates with leadership to enhance and maintain departmental protocols and initiatives aimed at ensuring high-quality patient care and encouraging referrals.
- Engages in collaborative efforts with healthcare professionals across various disciplines, documenting outcomes and improvements in patient care processes.
- Facilitates educational sessions within the department and across service lines, focusing on evidence-based practices and clinical expertise.
- Translates knowledge of evidence-based care into educational opportunities for students and peer professionals.
- Participates actively in multidisciplinary teams and committees to refine clinical workflows for inpatient care using process improvement methodologies.
- Assists in the coordination of inpatient care models, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices and established protocols.
- Conducts monthly peer chart reviews to uphold evidence-informed practices and collaborates with leadership to address any identified areas for improvement.
- Maintains compliance with productivity standards as established by departmental leadership.
- Accurately documents patient interactions, statistics, and billing information in a timely manner, adhering to departmental guidelines.
- Ensures that evaluations and daily documentation reflect evidence-informed practices.
- Supports transitions from inpatient to outpatient care, facilitating access to rehabilitation services and ensuring continuity of care post-discharge.
- Conducts comprehensive evaluations based on patients' medical histories, developmental stages, diagnoses, and prognoses, providing tailored recommendations.
- Maintains open and supportive communication with patients, caregivers, and other stakeholders regarding therapeutic progress and challenges.
- Develops detailed care plans that address identified deficits, activity limitations, and required support, ensuring that treatment goals are functional, realistic, and measurable.
- Recommends and administers therapeutic interventions based on clinical assessments and observations.
- Initiates and documents discharge planning at the time of evaluation, ensuring readiness based on the patient's potential and therapy benefits.
- Provides evidence of participation in in-service training focused on evidence-based practices.
- Demonstrates involvement in peer review activities, such as case study presentations, integrating evidence-based practices into treatment strategies.
- Maintains a minimum of 50% of continuing education units in the area of expertise.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences & Disorders.
- Active Florida Speech Language Pathologist license in good standing.
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
- Completion of Level II fingerprinting background check and Good Moral Character Affidavit.
- A minimum of 5 years of clinical experience with pediatric populations or 4 years of experience plus board certification in a relevant specialty.
Skills and Competencies
- Pediatric Board Certification or Doctoral degree is preferred.
- Membership in the American Speech-Language Hearing Association is advantageous.
- Experience in research, program development, or educational roles is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Analytical skills to assess patient conditions and determine appropriate interventions.
- Ability to foster cooperative relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
