The Shelby County Youth Development Specialist plays a pivotal role in the lives of justice-involved youth and their caregivers. This position involves building effective relationships, addressing challenges, and providing positive guidance towards behavior changes.
Responsibilities
- Assess youth using designated risk/needs/strength assessment tools to inform care plans.
- Develop, track, and revise customized care plans for youth, ensuring alignment with their unique needs and goals.
- Communicate with justice-involved youth to provide insight into responsible behaviors and attitudes, promoting social and emotional growth.
- Collaborate with caregivers to successfully implement customized care plans, empowering them as advocates throughout the process.
- Ensure the effective implementation of care plans, monitoring progress and making adjustments as needed.
- Coordinate regular check-in meetings to review progress and address any challenges.
- Become an expert in local youth development landscape, staying up-to-date on emerging trends and best practices.
- Review relevant reports, notes, and data to anticipate and address potential pitfalls.
- Empower youth and caregivers as advocates, providing excellent support throughout the process.
Requirements
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and effectively implement strategies aligned with emerging trends in youth development.
- Ability to communicate complex challenges with compassion and empathy.
- Knowledge of basic progress reports.
- Ability to build relationships with children and caregivers.
- Excellent written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills, strong negotiating and analytical/problem-solving skills.
- Proficient knowledge of computer/laptop/tablet and various web-based applications that support daily job functions.
