Job Summary

At Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA), we are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team in a key role that involves the modernization and innovation of explosives and energetic materials production facilities. As an Electrical Engineer, you will collaborate with subject matter experts and federal stakeholders to support research and development of current and new production equipment and facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Electrical Systems Design and Optimization: Assess existing electrical and industrial control systems and processes, and lead design efforts for new electrical and industrial control systems related to the production of energetic materials.
  • Supplier Engagement and Collaboration: Develop and implement strategies to engage third-party equipment suppliers knowledgeable in processing inert and energetic materials.
  • Project Management and Execution: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including facilities management, operations, maintenance, and EH&S, to design and execute projects.
  • Technical Assessments and Feasibility Studies: Conduct technical assessments and feasibility studies for facility upgrades, retrofits, and expansions, considering factors such as process safety, efficiency, sustainability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Technical Expertise and Support: Provide technical expertise and support for design, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical and industrial control systems.
  • Preventive Maintenance and Standard Operating Procedures: Design and implement preventive maintenance programs and standard operating procedures for new and existing equipment to ensure optimal safety, reliability, and longevity.
  • Industry Standards and Best Practices: Stay abreast of industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Technical Reporting and Documentation: Prepare technical reports, specifications, and documentation for electrical and industrial control system projects, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: 4-7 years of experience in electrical and industrial control systems engineering with a focus on industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of electrical systems design, industrial control system design, process equipment, and power distribution. Proficiency in electrical design software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Solidworks Electrical or similar) and familiarity with industrial control systems and SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge and Certifications: Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, such as NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and ASHRAE. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex technical issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
