Job Summary:

The County of Los Angeles is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervising Registered Veterinary Technician to join our Animal Care and Control team. As a Supervising Registered Veterinary Technician, you will be responsible for supervising a team of Registered Veterinary Technicians and ancillary staff, providing medical care and treatment to animals, and ensuring the highest level of animal care and welfare.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and direct the work of assigned Registered Veterinary Technicians and ancillary staff
  • Provide medical care and treatment to animals, including conducting physical examinations, administering medications and immunizations, and observing clinical symptoms
  • Train assigned personnel on proper techniques for administering medications, the treatment of animals, general surgical procedures, and equipment use
  • Monitor inventory levels of pharmaceutical supplies and equipment and assist in inventory maintenance for assigned unit
  • Maintain animal treatment records and monitor the feeding, care, and physical condition of animals
  • Perform euthanasia procedures of impounded animals
  • Attend meetings, as necessary, and participate in policy, procedure, and workflow discussions related to area of assignment

Requirements:

  • Two (2) years of experience in the service of the County of Los Angeles as a Registered Veterinary Technician
  • Three (3) years of experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician in a clinical setting and/or animal care related program
  • One (1) year of experience as a full-time supervisor by providing administrative and technical supervision to Registered Veterinary Technicians in an animal care setting
  • Two (2) years of experience leading other Registered Veterinary Technicians or veterinary assistants in a clinical setting and/or animal care related program

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an animal shelter as a Registered Veterinary Technician

Physical Class:

  • Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds

LICENSE:

  • A valid Registered Veterinary Technician Certificate issued by the California State Board of Examiners in Veterinary Medicine
  • A valid California Class C Driver's License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:

  • Administrative and technical supervision is defined as a position with the responsibility of the quantity and quality of work performed by lower level non-supervisory staff usually three (3) to ten (10) employees
  • Leading is defined as a position that acts as team or group leader to at least two (2) or more journey or lower level employees with responsibility for assigning, coordinating, and reviewing the work, ensuring proper work methods are followed, and providing technical assistance and training
