Job Summary

As a Specialty Unit Charge RN at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in leading the healthcare team and coordinating departmental operations to ensure high-quality patient care in a safe and healing environment. You will be responsible for demonstrating responsibility and accountability for your professional practice, serving as an expert resource, and being available and supportive to employees and understanding their priorities and needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct, review, assign, and organize the work of at least three employees, including at least one Registered Nurse.
  • Apply the KP Nursing mission, vision, values, and behaviors in daily practice, understanding needs and setting priorities for the department.
  • Provide professional leadership and direction to department personnel to maintain efficient delivery of effective patient care.
  • Coordinate departmental operations, delegate tasks appropriately, and serve as an excellent staff role model for professional nursing practice.
  • Uphold compliance with Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures, principles of responsibilities, applicable state and federal laws and regulations, and accreditation and licensure requirements.
  • Act as a resource, preceptor, and mentor to new employees, registry, students, and other team members in department-specific operations and patient care activities.
  • Collaborate with or refer to manager/clinical nurse specialist/educator any outstanding issues or concerns on the unit.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  • Participate in activities related to patient flow, including admission and discharge processes, and facilitate inter-professional/interdisciplinary communication and collaboration.
Requirements
  • 1-year recent (within the last 3 years) full-time equivalent experience in Labor and Delivery, or successful completion of a KP L&D course (which includes basic fetal monitoring and NRP) or approved equivalent within prior 12 months.
  • Registered Nurse License (California)
  • Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certificate within 12 months of hire
  • Basic Life Support
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program
