Job Summary

As a Veterinarian at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, you will provide exceptional care to our nonhuman primate population, working closely with research staff and animal care committees to ensure the well-being of our research animals. You will have the opportunity to utilize cutting-edge clinical and surgical techniques, and work in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement animal care programs to prevent disease and promote health in designated animal colonies.
  • Conduct physical exams, diagnose medical conditions, and provide treatment and surgical care to animals in various environments.
  • Document medical procedures and activities, and disseminate information to stakeholders.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and consultant to internal and external stakeholders on research protocols and animal care.
  • Assist in the development and review of protocols, policies, and grant applications.
  • Develop and facilitate training programs for staff and students on animal care methodologies and processes.
  • Supervise and mentor veterinary technicians in the support of anesthetic and surgical procedures.
Requirements
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited school of veterinary medicine.
  • At least one year of experience as a veterinarian, with prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience working with nonhuman primates in a research setting is highly desirable.
