Job Title: Information Security Officer

College of the Desert is seeking a highly skilled Information Security Officer to join our team. As a key member of our Information Technology department, you will be responsible for designing and deploying information security technologies, advising IT staff on IT security matters, and enforcing directives as mandated by regulations and state and federal law.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deploy information security technologies
  • Advise IT staff on IT security matters
  • Enforce directives as mandated by regulations and state and federal law
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct major projects or phases of security projects
  • Conduct and initiate security scans, audits, and perform risk assessments
  • Research, select, plan, implement, and support effective IT Security controls, monitoring tools, and practices
  • Perform technical security design/review activities for applications, networks, servers, architecture, and databases to ensure secure deployments
  • Provide incident response and remediation support and initiate and coordinate with necessary vendors as required
  • Monitor the external IT Security threat environment for emerging threats and make recommendations on appropriate course of action
  • Communicate trending risks and assist with developing, maintaining, and presenting IT Security awareness training for staff and faculty

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in security, network design and development, computer forensics, technology-related auditing, computer systems, and/or programming responsibilities
  • One or more relevant technical security certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Cisco CyberOps Professional, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), COMPTIA CySa+, or Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP)

Working Conditions:

This is a full-time position scheduled 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. The regular schedule is Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The primary location is Palm Desert Campus. The schedule and location are subject to change based on District need.
