As a key member of the Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy team, the Research Administrator will be responsible for the complex pre-award and post-award administration of grants and contracts. This includes reviewing and submitting proposals to external funding sources, initiating the creation of cost centers, and modifying them according to revised award notices.

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of research administration, as well as excellent communication and problem-solving skills. They will serve as a team leader for research administration and provide guidance and expertise to faculty, department administrators, and university executives on grants and contracts issues.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing and submitting proposals to external funding sources
  • Initiating the creation of cost centers and modifying them according to revised award notices
  • Providing guidance and expertise to faculty, department administrators, and university executives on grants and contracts issues
  • Resolving customer problems and developing internal operating procedures for the research administration team
  • Maintaining web-based proposal submission and research administration systems
  • Negotiating the terms and conditions of grants and sub-recipient awards with potential sponsors and awardees
  • Researching sponsor's financial and administrative regulations applicable to funded projects
  • Evaluating expenditure reallocation documents according to federal, state, and university guidelines

Requirements include a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of directly job-related experience. The department is willing to accept education in lieu of experience or experience in lieu of education.
