Job Title: Customer Development Specialist

Welcome to Gordon Food Service, where we're passionate about helping our customers succeed. As a Customer Development Specialist, you'll play a critical role in strengthening customer relationships and driving profitable sales growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Represent Gordon Food Service products and services in assigned territories and accounts, seeking growth opportunities and onboarding new customers.
  • Manage customer business relationships, including accounts receivable, credits, lost business, growth, deployment of resources, and average order size/profitability.
  • Travel through assigned territories to call on existing and prospective customers, maintaining and seeking growth opportunities, and increasing profitable sales volume and contract compliance.
  • Coordinate and conduct product demonstrations and presentations, discussing applications and emphasizing features based on price or value to customer business operations.
  • Create and deliver business plans based on customer needs, goals, and objectives.
  • Work directly with Regional and/or National chain account managers to execute strategic initiatives across concepts within units.
  • Direct and deliver consultative services, such as GPO Maximation, menu engineering, wait staff, and HAACP training, consulting with customers and network resources to fulfill operations and profitability needs.
  • Conduct personal results analysis and planning at the customer level.
  • Receive, discuss, and/or verify order information with customers using appropriate methods on a monthly basis, including customer credits to identify and establish sales performance goals.
  • Explain credit terms via established parameters and manage the collection of receivables using multiple methods, including electronic, mail, and personal pickup of payments.
  • Identify competition, customer purchasing patterns, perform customer sales history analysis, and observe and gather data to determine the needs of customer operations.
  • Endorse and promote NextGen and other technical solutions.
  • Develop and oversee customer segment shows and participate in customer events.
  • Collaborate with brokers to establish GFS products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Ability to meet and exceed sales performance goals and execute appropriate time and territory management.
  • Ability to support bid negotiation process and navigate through agreements.
  • Ability to interact with customers using comprehensive communication skills and the ability to express self verbally.
  • Must be a strategic thinker, inquisitive, innovative, and creative to build relationships, network, link resources, and apply business practices.
  • Able to work effectively in teams and display integrity and honesty to participate and contribute to branch team efforts.
  • Goal-driven, with organizational and administration skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow-up in order to self-manage and develop discipline.
  • Must be flexible and receptive to coaching.
