Position Overview:

Become an integral part of CNA's largest industry segment within our commercial portfolio. The CNA Construction division offers primary lines and excess casualty coverages, with deep expertise in the Construction sector. We provide unique solutions tailored for Large and Middle Market Contractors, including specialized product offerings such as Contractors Professional Liability, Contractors Pollution, Contractors E&O, and group captives.

Our dedicated Excess Casualty team consists of specialized underwriters focused on Construction risks. Collaborate with a knowledgeable team that understands the intricacies of this industry segment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop a complex portfolio of Excess Casualty business, recognized as a technical expert in underwriting.
  • Conduct thorough analysis and business development to ensure retention and growth of your book of business.
  • Work independently within broad limits of authority on assignments requiring a high degree of technical complexity.
  • Travel up to 15% within your designated region.

Essential Duties:

  • Evaluate highly complex underwriting risks using systematic analysis to determine acceptability.
  • Establish appropriate pricing for complex risks based on financial and competitive analysis.
  • Provide recommendations on underwriting policies and pricing strategies.
  • Analyze the quality and profitability of risks underwritten, preparing and presenting reports to management.
  • Market products and services through agency relationships and field visits.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with large producers within your territory.
  • Stay informed on state regulations, industry trends, and participate in relevant trade groups.
  • Mentor less experienced underwriters and contribute to training initiatives.
  • Utilize advanced functionalities in relevant systems for daily operations.
  • Lead special underwriting projects and presentations as required.

Reporting Structure:

Reports to the AVP, Underwriting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; professional designations preferred.
  • A minimum of five to eight years of underwriting experience is typically required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced technical expertise and a strong understanding of insurance and underwriting principles.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous situations effectively.
  • Creativity in addressing unique business challenges.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
