Job Summary:
Provide expert veterinary care for all animals in the Rush University Medical Center Comparative Research Center, ensuring their health and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide veterinary care for all animals, including management and advice to investigators.
• Collaborate with investigators to design projects, ensuring proper veterinary care for animals.
• Consult on surgical procedures and anesthesia use, ensuring animal safety.
• Manage the rodent health surveillance program, ensuring compliance with regulations.
• Perform complex surgical procedures and provide postoperative monitoring, ensuring animal recovery.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and policies, maintaining a safe and healthy environment for animals.
• Supervise daily activities of veterinary technicians, ensuring efficient and effective animal care.

Required Qualifications:
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) licensed in Illinois, with completion of a Laboratory Animal Medicine residency or fellowship, or 1 year of experience with laboratory animals.
• American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine Certification within 3 years, with experience in AAALAC-International accredited laboratory animal care and use programs.
• Strong understanding of Animal facility management, Veterinary medicine, Animal facility budgetary management, Animal protocol systems, IACUC functions, Animal physiology and behavior, Animal husbandry and care procedures, Physical plant and facility equipment systems, and regulatory requirements and animal program issues.
