Job Title: Behavior Support Assistant

Benton Harbor Charter School Academy is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Behavior Support Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our school community, you will play a pivotal role in creating a positive and effective learning environment by excelling in behavior management and support, providing valuable assistance in classroom instruction, overseeing student supervision, and implementing targeted behavior interventions.

Job Summary:

The Behavior Support Assistant will work closely with teachers, staff, and administrators to establish and maintain a comprehensive system of behavior management that supports positive student behavior, enhances classroom instruction, and ensures a secure and conducive learning environment. This role requires a strong commitment to student success, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and families from diverse backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enforce school policies and procedures, utilizing appropriate disciplinary procedures and techniques in accordance with the school site discipline plan.
  • Responsible for all safety rules and their enforcement on school grounds, maintaining open lines of communication with all staff.
  • Supervise and monitor students during assigned playground, hallway, and lunchroom supervision periods, reporting any unsafe playground conditions to the school leader immediately.
  • Maintain and contribute to a clean, attractive, and orderly environment, assuming responsibility for the safe condition of outdoor structures.
  • Assist classroom teachers in organizing and distributing lesson materials, supporting instruction, and engaging students in learning.
  • Implement behavior interventions with students as needed, using approved behavioral strategies and positive reinforcements to de-escalate negative behaviors.
  • Assist students with appropriate peer and adult social behaviors, escorting, monitoring, and maintaining supervision of students as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a clean background check and passed a physical exam to certify being in good health and drug-free.
  • Solid record of punctuality verified by background check.

  • Ability to work effectively with school personnel and students in a diverse school community.
  • Knowledge and skills working with students from all backgrounds.
