Position Title: Engineering Manager

Reporting To: Director of Engineering

Location: Various locations available

Role Summary: In this pivotal role, you will contribute to the development of our cutting-edge technology platform that lies at the core of our engagement and behavioral change initiatives. Collaborating with a diverse team of backend and frontend developers, data scientists, and product managers, you will design, implement, and oversee product features that serve thousands of users. We seek an individual who can deliver solutions that are comprehensive, efficient, secure, and maintainable. Attributes such as ownership, self-motivation, teamwork, and experience in a dynamic agile environment are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead significant workstreams, focusing on both new user-facing features and enhancements to our existing service ecosystem.
  • Manage a team of software professionals, prioritizing high-level tasks and projects.
  • Represent the Typescript team in discussions regarding organizational processes and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with mobile, backend, and data science experts, as well as product and delivery managers, to create a seamless user experience.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and enhance the team's ability to make enduring, informed choices.
  • Assist in building and maintaining internal applications that support the core functions of our technology platform.
  • Promote operational excellence in software development through participation in code reviews, quality assurance, and production monitoring.
  • Ensure the security and safety of all systems and data, including sensitive member information, in accordance with data and security policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience in team management.
  • Expertise in delivering software solutions using React and Typescript, with a broad interest in other programming languages.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, tools, patterns, algorithms, and systems design.
  • Ability to make informed decisions at both micro and macro levels in software development.
  • Proven coding skills with a track record of resolving complex technical challenges.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies in alignment with our engineering culture.
  • Familiarity with microservices and monolith patterns, including their respective trade-offs.
  • Experience with modern cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Solid understanding of the HTTP stack and REST APIs.
  • Knowledge of databases and their associated trade-offs.
  • Experience with backend for frontend design, particularly for mobile applications.
  • Experience in healthcare settings is advantageous but not required.
  • Understanding of security principles in software development, especially for consumer-facing applications.
