Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Wildlife Biologist Consultant to join our team at ERM. As a Wildlife Biologist Consultant, you will play a key role in shaping a sustainable future in California by working on environmental projects located in Northern California.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Lead Field Surveys: Conduct field surveys, biological assessments, and implement permit mitigation measures in the field.
  • Lead Nesting Bird Surveys: Conduct nesting bird surveys, natural community assessments, rare plant surveys, and preliminary aquatic resource evaluations.
  • Mentor Junior Field Staff: Mentor junior field staff and provide technical QA/QC assistance on deliverables.
  • Data Entry and Review: Enter data, review data, and provide expertise with ESRI fieldmaps and sub-meter GPS data collection.
  • Support Document Preparation: Support the preparation of CEQA and NEPA documents, ESA Biological Assessments, CDFW 1602 permits, and other environmental documents.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers: Collaborate with project managers and clients to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Prepare Proposals: Prepare proposals, including development of scopes and cost estimates, and participate in business development with existing clients.
  • Work on Multiple Projects: Work on multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables and timely delivery of reports.
  • Build Collaborative Relationships: Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees.
Requirements
  • Field-Based Role: This is primarily a field-based role.
  • Education and Experience: BSc or MSc degree in Biological Sciences, or related field, and a minimum of 2-5 years in environmental consulting experience.
  • Field Experience: Preferred 2+ years field experience in addition to consulting experience with a focus on biota in Northern California.
  • Regulatory Expertise: Expertise with federal and state regulations including ESA and CEQA, and guidelines pertaining to survey methodologies and environmental assessments.
  • Technical Skills: Expertise in sub-meter accuracy GPS technologies, fieldmaps, and GIS collection techniques in the field.
  • Commitment to Safety: Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols.
  • Communication and Organizational Skills: Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to Prioritize and Meet Deadlines: Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a demanding work environment.
  • Valid Driver's License: Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Travel Requirements: Must be willing to travel to field sites, frequently on short notice, and overnight stays throughout northern California.
  • Botanical Expertise: Botanical expertise is preferred.

The annual base pay for this position is $71,764 – $81,320 USD, and an employee's pay position within this range will be based on several factors, including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.

This job is also eligible for an annual discretionary-based performance bonus.
