Job Summary: This role is pivotal in managing safety protocols and associated programs across all ASGCO facilities. The intern will play a crucial role in educating staff about federal and state safety regulations, coordinating safety initiatives, and liaising with external agencies and inspectors.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and support incident and accident investigations.
  • Assist in training staff on Loss Control fundamentals.
  • Collaborate with management to formulate the annual safety budget.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to health and safety standards.
  • Work alongside location safety managers to conduct audits and ensure compliance with regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate with management and HR to handle all Workers' Compensation claims.
  • Implement standardized pre-qualification forms for contract work.
  • Act as the Safety Leader during field service operations as necessary.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate work processes for safety compliance, coaching employees on best practices.
  • Prepare reports on safety findings and suggest corrective measures.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures in both shop and field environments.
  • Manage third-party random drug screening across the organization.
  • Address employee safety concerns professionally.
  • Provide necessary reporting to state mining authorities as required.
  • Apply federal, state, and company safety regulations to job-site practices.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and commitment to ongoing training initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Science is required.
  • Recent graduates with an EHS degree are encouraged to apply.
  • Preferred degree in Occupational Safety & Environmental Health.
  • 1-3 years of experience in an industrial safety environment, with a focus on leading and implementing safety programs.
  • Experience in coordinating with third-party compliance organizations.
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites and ASGCO facilities as needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated background in accident prevention, safety auditing, and compliance management.
Work Environment:
  • Work is conducted in diverse industrial settings, including shops, steel fabrication, and construction sites, which may involve exposure to varying temperatures, moving machinery, and hazardous materials.
  • Physical requirements include standing, sitting, climbing, and lifting moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
  • Personal protective equipment is mandatory, including hard hats, safety glasses, and other necessary gear.
