Historic Sites Architect

We are seeking a highly skilled Historic Sites Architect to join our team at the Texas Historical Commission. As a key member of our preservation team, you will be responsible for assisting the Historic Sites Division Chief Architect with routine or moderately complex architectural work.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in contracting and overseeing the development of architectural plans and specifications for repair and restoration of the state's historic sites.
- Inspect existing buildings and develop detailed scopes of work and cost estimates.
- Prepare conceptual plans, feasibility studies, and Construction Documents using AutoCAD, Revit, and/or SketchUp software.
- Review and manage the work of contracted architects, engineers, and other related consultants.
- Assist in developing solicitation documents and monitoring the bidding and contracting processes.
- Perform Construction Contract Administration duties during the project construction phase.
- Catalog and maintain project record documents.
- Conduct inspections for compliance with laws and specifications.
- Track building conditions and cyclical maintenance activities.
- Work with architects/engineers and construction contractors to enforce warranty obligations and coordinate corrective action.
- Provide technical information and architectural consultation to field staff at State historic sites.
- Participate in planning for collections care, interpretation, and educational programs, as needed.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Architecture or a related field.
- Current architectural registration by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners.
- Minimum three years of professional work experience in a professional office environment preparing Construction Documents and/or performing Construction Contract Administration duties.
- Ability to utilize AutoCAD or Revit proficiently to produce construction documents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and ability to drive a state vehicle.
- Required to travel up to 20% of the work period.
- Master's degree in Architecture, with an emphasis on Historic Preservation or Architectural History.
- Experience in applying the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
- Skill in using SketchUp to produce 3D renderings.
- Proficiency in Revit.
- Knowledge of architectural and design principles, techniques, and procedures.
- Knowledge of both contemporary and historic building materials and construction methods.
- Knowledge of building and life safety codes, especially in relationship to historic properties.
- Familiarity with Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) standards and practices.
- Skill in providing customer service excellence to both internal and external customers.
- Skill in operating a personal computer with word processing, database, and spreadsheet software.
- Ability to prepare construction cost estimates and budget documents using Microsoft Excel.
- Effective verbal and written communication, human relations, and organizational skills.
- Effective critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work in a setting requiring self-motivation/cooperative decision-making and to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
- Ability to visualize architectural designs; to apply architectural concepts; to plan, coordinate, and monitor projects; to conduct inspections; and to communicate effectively.
- Ability to analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and recommend effective solutions.
- Ability to process information in a logical manner and to assess validity.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining close attention to detail.
